Rambler, you don't have any rake yet? I have. With 5 fingers raking.. money the dirt. This was a saying of my old old grandpa "money is a hand dirt - you wash your hand - and, it gets dirty again." Yes, I have met some nomads who make copies of copies of copies of...items. I have seen one nomad on Newagtalk who does such things. Anyways..

Human life is really colorful... but, that colorfulness is almost always because of misunderstandings. Here we see another one. I thought you were talking about "carted rakes with hydraulic lifts" when you were talking about "3-pt" mounted rakes. I have seen (on web sites) some carted rakes, but all were rakes with towed mounted. Never seen 3-pt carted rake. So, actually you were talking about non-hydraulic side delivery rake when you were talking about 3-pt mounted rake.

My hands are pretty dirty tonight from combining all day! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Unfortunately I have more dirt than money, so haven't purchased a rake yet. I do have a pretty good older NH rollabar rake, but would like a wheel rake for some occations - and backup for breakdowns. So I'm in no hurry. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think Phred's rake is on a cart? I believe they are very similar, the 3-point Vermeer is about the same as the pull type. The pull type is a bit more money because of the axle, 2 tires, and such.

It seems (from forum talks on the net) that "rotary rake" is more popular among farmers. Most of them are planning to buy rotary rakes as soon as they harvest a little crops more.

An alternative; Built-your own V-rake yourself. All you will need are 1 simple pto shaft + 2 pulleys each of it transmitting the PTO motion to one side of rake tines. These a few rake tines (like rotary rake tines) can move like a tank pallet, following a vertical elliptic motion unlike rotary rake tines which follow horizontal circular motion.
