I'm getting a new tractor next week and will need a new quick attach hay spear to move round hay bales. My old tractor has a spear that is a pin on type so I can't use it on my new tractor with the SSQA. That leaves me with having to get a new spear.

My old tractor had 1 long spear and 2 short stabilizers and that's all I've ever used. I have seen the ones with 2 long spears but not used them.

My question is... which type spear do you guys like the best, 1 long spear with 2 shorter stabilizers or 2 long spears? Does one stab the round bales easier than the other?

I always used one long and two short until I started handling square bales. Now I use two long and haven't went back to the single for quite sometime.. Do the bales you handle have hard or soft cores?

My rear, 3 point mounted spear is a single spear and two small stabilizers. If I don't get the spear fairly centered, it does move on me while driving. MY quick attach, front loader has two spears. I like it better. Very stable, it doesn't matter whey I hit the bale, it never moves while getting it out to the pasture. I also like that I can pick up my hay ring with it and place it over the bale. I guess a singe would do that to, but I don't really know for sure.

Thanks for the opinions.

My bales are pretty solid and the single spear has no problem penetrating the core. When stacked, the bottom bales don't smash much.

The easiest thing to do is get a ssqa plate and weld it on your old spear where the pin on part is unless you want to still use it

I would do that but the spear is being traded in with the old tractor.

On my 1st Kubota FEL I had a single spear then my latest Kubota has 2 spears. I like the 2 spears much better than the 1 spear.

Thanks a lot. Any particular reason that you like the 2 spears better?

My Brother has a thick round 3pt hitch spear with two stabelizers. I used to borrow it and his tractor as well. When I bought my own tractor I got a double square spear.
The smaller double spears seem to penetrate the bales better. If i have to move more than five bales with my brother's tractor I prefer to switch his single spear for my double. I use the forks on the loader to move an additional bale and would much prefer using a double spear there too.
