Hay Storage question

I grew up hearing about the time the neighbor's barn caught fire and the horses were locked inside. The firsr people on the scene couldn't let them out because they didn't have the keys, At least some of the horses were badly burned and had to be destroyed. If I had to keep my horses in the barn with the hay, I'd want them to a clear path out of an open door, the more doors the better.

The family my cousin married into lost a barn due to hay... they young farmer took over after his dad died of a heart attack and brought the hay in too soon as a week of bad weather was forecast...

This was in 1985... the dairy operation was on the ground floor with a huge hay loft above... enough for 30 cows over winter...

The new barn was concrete and block...
