I am interested in building two trailers on a flat bed trailer, preferrably wagon style to be pulled by a tractor, that can haul 200-400 square bales at a time. Does anyone have plans for such a trailer? Second I want to build a similar trailer that I can mount a 1000 gal liquid fertilizer tank and booms on, does anyone have plans for that?

No plans.. But i'd like to point out that your trailer with the liquid fertalizer tank will need to be able to support the 8000-9000 pounds from the fertalizer, plus the tank, spray booms, and support equipment, and the axles will have to support all this plus the weight of the trailer itself... That is going to throw you into either a tri axle using 3500# axles as a minimum, or using 5000# axles. Some sort of floatation agg tire may help with weight distribution.. I figure the trailer frame will be 2000-3000 pounds by itself.

Good luck... I hope you have an ag tractor to tote that with... electric brakes and a brake controller might be a godsend as well..

Might be quad axle, or use some military axles on that hay trailer.. I could easilly see 18000 pounds of hay stacked up there...

Perhaps have a look at commercial versions for ideas.

Buying the wagon style bale hauler may be almost as cost effective as building one.

Both of these can be had very cheaply at auctions. A good hay trailer will go for around $300 and a fertilizer trailer will go for $500-1000 with the poly tank. Unless you are a serious big time farmer/rancher I wouldn't even mess with the fertilizer. The application rates are very minimal and I don't know anyone with less than a couple thousand acres that would even want to mess with putting their own fertilizer on.

Here in fl i have seen alot hay wagons made from cotten trailers. Most growers are using modules builders now so the trailers are showing up at the auctions.

I've only ever heard of a couple hay wagons near that size, and the owners were always unhappy with them once they got to using them. Too big & unweildly & too much weight on the 3 axles. Just a waste.

For spraying, I'd look to a comercial unit on tandem or high profile dual wheels. I would not under any condions want a trailer out in the field with 1000 gallons & a spray boom on it. I'd leave it sit where it sank, & just burry it to put both it & me out of our miseries..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

There is a farm magaize called 'Farm Show' that shows these types of farmer-built things every month. They have a CD of the past many years worth of issues where I'm sure you would find many ideas to help you. Well worth the $20 or $40 or whatever it will cost you. They are on the web.

I still would not want a wagon bigger than 160-180 bales, and I would not want a trailer running gear under a sprayer rig - ever.

I once had to deliver 200 bales and it took a 32ft x 8ft trailer with 8ft sides plus 14 bales on the flatbed truck that we pulled with.
