Quick question....I am replacing all of the guards on my New Holland 474 Haybine. I bought a complete cutterbar rebuild kit from Webb's which I have done business with before. Is it okay for the end guards to have the tab of metal on them? The ones I received are the same part number for the regular guards and the end guards. The one I took off (Case New Holland) were all the same part number but somebody must have ground the tab off. The question I have is does it matter if the tab is on there or not? Thanks in advance!

That is part of the guide for the cutter blade but your blade shouldn't come out that far on the end anyway, so really just a matter of personal preference.

Some prior owner felt the need to grind off the tab on your old guard. Maybe a little hay was hanging up on it but I can't see that it would be much of an issue. If it were mine I would put it on as is; if it becomes a problem take a minute later to grind it off.

Thanks for the responses. Like both of you said, I think I am going to just use it and if I need to grind it off later it would be no big deal.
