Haylage Warpper: Individual vs. Tube

/ Haylage Warpper: Individual vs. Tube #11
I agree with singles for sales and portability anytime of the year. My oldest Son does both, He uses Tube (rented from Farm Bureau) for his own use and individual for selling. He is in Lincoln Co. Ky and helps run the Farm Bureau rental units as well as pull maintence on 3 of the tube wrappers. Ken Sweet

SMALL WORLD!! I live in Hustonville, Ky. Wow!

I farm with my folks off of RT 78. We are in the process of transferring the operation over to me.

Renting from Farm Bureau makes the most sense at $3 per bale, plus plastic. However it seems like whenever the weather is good for making hay, there is a waiting list for the wrappers. From my perspective it is kind of hard to produce hay with a certain moisture content, not knowing whether or not the wrapper is available.

Thanks!

Not disputing any of that. But do you bale for your own consumption, or market the baleage? If you market it, describe how that works, please.

Having not seen it, I'm shooting in the dark here, but I would guess it's a small horizontal shaft engine (Briggs or Honda) with a hydraulic pump mounted to it, and lines leading to a reservoir. Somewhere there has to be a remote mounted for the hydraulic lines.

civesnedfield can you post some pics?

Thanks!

the individual wrapped bales are the best if you are selling a load at a time. The end product is a much better quality. If you have limited storage the wrapped bales are easier to store. The wrapper does take a extra tractor but not much HP is required 40-60 HP with 12-16 GPM hydraulics.Take a look at the McHale 991b
wrapper very well built durable nice options on the unit.

Not marketing. Dairy farm consumption.

The power unit is similar to the one shown.

When I get home this weekend I snap a few pics.. We do individual bales, with 7 or 8 different fields all a ways to the farm it makes sense. That plus there isn't enought room at the farm to do the long tube. Not unless we wanted to put the tubes in the riding ring---and get shot trying to do it.

Thanks, but I'm familiar with tube wrappers. I wanted to know how marketing tubed baleage worked for him if that was his business plan. It seems that it is consomed on-farm by his dairy herd.

Thanks for the responses thus far guys! thinking the single wrapper makes the most sense... and add an auxiliary motor.

Does anyone know what tractorhouse.com official name of those single bale clamps is? I can't seem to find any on the site.

My loan officer requires proof of pricing in my budget plan, and tractorhouse is what I am using for my other equipment. Any links would be appreciated!

If you are from Husontville, you probably know where McKinney is? Son lives about 2 miles west of there. You are indeed in "cattle country". Good luck with the Farming operation. Ken Sweet

Work Saver calls them bale clamps, but try bale grab that might work.
