What software do you use to organize the photos? This is my biggest problem; I need to find something that allows easy organization and printing for a large # of photos.

Re: hazmat\'s got a camera.... Any tips?

I use ULead Photo Explorer.

I also organize my photos by date. I have a main folder called Photo Album, and then have a folder for each year and each month within each year.

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>
Photo Album --2003 -|-- JAN
|-- FEB
| ...
|-- DEC
--2002 -|-- JAN
| ...
|-- DEC
</pre><hr />

and so on...

Then is renumber each photo within each folder to this format: YYYY-MM-xxx. An example photo for this month would be 2003-07-003.jpg

I hope this makes sense.

I'm not as knowledgeable as the other guys when it comes to camera types and software. I always look for the stuff that a 6 year old can handle and then figure if I can understand the instructions, I should be able to make it work. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Anyway, I bought a Kodak DX4900 digital camera and I use the software that came with it. I download from the camera directly into the software, where I can "play" with enhancing the photos. But I can't re-size them there. I can save them all in an album format, but I usually just save them to my own "My Pictures" file, and then name the sub-file. For example, I named the file of pictures of the property that we're looking at possibly buying "Creedy Road Property".

To re-size a photo so I can post it on TBN, I use Microsoft Photo Editor.

jlemon,
I use Microsoft Windows XP which has a nice feature for organizing photos. If you tell it to treat a folder as a photo album it will provide thumbnails for all of the photos. So, like Gatorboy, I have a naming convention. I have a folder for this year, and under it I have subfolders with short, meaningful titles, like TRACTORS. Under the TRACTORS folder I have several sub folders for different tractor makes and then models, etc... When I click on a folder, I see a list of thumbnail photos of the photos that are in the folder. It works pretty well. It also lets you put in some comments for the photos and you can view all of the settings that the camera used to take the photo. It is one of the few Microsoft features that I really enjoy.

As for photo editing, I have used Paint Shop Pro 7 for about three years now and like it. I got it free with a purchase, so I have no money tied up in it.

Re: hazmat\'s got a camera.... Any tips?

I was changing the door at our jobsite and there is a feeder right behind my head. I turned around as I could hear the buzzing and there was a hummingbird 5 inches from my face wanting to get to the feeder. He could care less I was there as they were use to people so I figured it would be as good a time as any to take a picture. Hardest part is zooming in on them and keeping them centered in the frame as they don't sit still very long.

Re: hazmat\'s got a camera.... Any tips?

Thanks for the replies. I currently am using Ulead photo organizer which came with my Powershot 110. My problem is that it just seems overly slow, especially when having 300+ photos in one "folder". I also managed to somehow corrupt the database index of the first year, I think it grew too large. Luckily, the photos themselves are stored directly as files instead of in a database, so I was able to still access them.

Perhaps my computer is just too slow; it's still running Win '95 as well. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I think I'll try getting PhotoShop Essentials and see if it indexes any better. Organization is not my strong point.

Re: hazmat\'s got a camera.... Any tips?

It is most likely your computer is slow. I had the same problem with Ulead organizer when I had a 500 mhz system. I since have jumped to a 1.8 ghz system and no more problems /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I also added 160 gig of hard drive space to allow me to store photos on my system as I used up my previous hard drive. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
