I never put one on a Yanmar, but on all others, if all holes, etc., lined up, it always worked, with proper torque.

If you have the correct gasket for the YM1700 it will only line up one way. Take the head to a machine shop and let them check to see if it is warped, if it is they may put it on a surface grinder and get the warp out. The head bolts on the YM1700 should be torqued to 130 ft lbs + or - 3.6 ft lbs.

Danny

P.S. is this one of the after market gaskets

There in lies the problem, hole alignment. Small engines are not too bad but as more cyl get added the harder it is to catch a misaligned or missing hole.

Son bought an old Land Cruiser last yr with about 50 mile on the engine but the valve train was bone dry. These old engines were copies of old Chevy 6's. Lots of holes, all but one small hole were sym. The one hole/passage was the oil hole to the valves. Also seem to remember the oil passage took a jog in the head gasket. Oil passage was not same location in block and head.

really gotta look closely.
