Getting old. Sold the ranch. Sold the tractors. Moved back to the city.
Anybody have comments on a Ford 4600 (#C486912) and/or a David Brown 885. Coming up for auction this weekend in my neighborhood and both are in my hp and price range.

Anything unusual to watch out for on these particular tractors?

Any model year(s) particularly good or bad?

Parts will probably be more readily available on the Ford and less money.

Both fairly decent tractors in general. The Ford happens to be one of the best models Ford ever built. (4000)

My dad still uses a 4600 to this day. He loves that tractor. He has the SU model. I believe stands for short utility? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Does the tractor have a loader on it? Alot of loader work will tend to bend the front axle on that tractor. Also hard on wheel bearings in the front with a loader on it. Look at the tractor from the front and see if the front tires are straight up and down. If they are cocked inward at the top, either the bearings are out of in the front or the front axle is bent. Very good, powerful tractors. Loader work is hard on them though. Good luck!

I lived in england before coming to canada (Where david browns come from) over there they have a terrible reputation and are worth nothing . Those engines will not take work , Maybe ok for hobby , the 4600 is a much better tractor ,
Although some of the 4 cylinders suffered from porous engine blocks but i'm not sure if it was a problem with these , Fords Replacement blocks later on had ribbed pattern on them these were good ,
