I was also in the area of that storm. Looked like the end of the world. You were a prisoner in your own home. All this fell in about 30 hours if I remember correctly. Would have to dig into the archives for pics from that one. I found a few though...As you have noticed.... I like taking pics.........

It's now Monday and the snow is gone. All that's left is the downed tree branches. about 100.000 of the 350.000 have power back and the crews have cleared all the limbs from in front of the house. Just anouther snow event in WNY. It's not like tornados or hurricanes. If we wait long enough nature takes it away.

Does seem a tad early doesn't it? My wife and I went over to help her aunt and cousin who live alone and man it looked like a war zone,we live south of Buffalo and just got a little of what they got in Amherst.
As I was sawing fallen branches/trees people were comming up to me to offer me work,I had the feeling that I could have named my price for my chainsaw and a generator............forget it.
By this spring everyone in this area will own a saw and gen.
The good news is that the snow will melt and the trees will be cleared and no one will have lost their home.
Were used to this stuff in this area and it brings out the best in everyone with the exception of a few.Unfortunately a few people have died as a result of the storm ie tree accidents and fumes from generators,Myself I fell after a branch that I was cutting did a reverse swing and wiped me off of a 12' step ladder but, other than a few bumps and injured pride I'm OK.....Mike

Here is some of the damage in the West Seneca and S. Buffalo area. This is mild compared to some of the other areas.

See this is where your wrong. I'd think that way too but I still know people who've lived here their whole lives and still are not prepared for what nature lashes at us.

Blizzards, Ice Storms, power outages and still people don't think about it. I just don't understand....But they scream when the power is out and you can see their trying. You have to be prepared.

Being a life long Western New Yorker, " this ain't no thing". Like it was stated, this is nothing compared to a hurricane, tornado, earthquake, or brush fire. having the power out for 4 or 5 days does not compare to not having your house on the foundation. The trees are getting cleared, the powers on and we're back to our normal lives. This is by no stretch of the imagination a catastrophe, it was merely a snow storm, which is quite normal here. My hat is off to the utility workers who got us up and running. They did an unbelievable job in such a short time. Now lets hope the cleanup crews can match their work ethics. We play the hand we're dealt, suck it up and move on. The only thing that got me aggravated was, my ice cream melted in the freezer and I ran out of double stuffed oreos, now that was a catastrophe!
