"Headsup" for tractors been under water

It is early now, However I just wanted to give you guys a heads up on what is coming. After the flood waters subside, hundreds if not thousands of tractors will be on the market from the rockies and east. Jockys will pick up these units from consignment sales and insurance companies for next to nothing. They will pressure them off, change the fluids and put them on the market at a really good price, away from the flood area. I have seen this happen once before when the upper midwest flooded out 12-15 yrs ago. We saw many of these tractors come into our county and were sold to unsuspecting farmers. Long story short, all these units will have major engine, and drive train troubles within usually 30 days. Look under the seats and every nook and cranny for sand residue and verify the tractors history before buying. Buyer beware. Ken Sweet

I'd be leery of imported grey market tractors and kei trucks from Japan too.

I don't think SweetTractors is refering to Japanese units.

With the flooding right across the US and Canada, and currently here in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, the likelihood of someone trying to flog a piece of junk ratchets up even more.

As was said...investigate the deal, the item for sale, and if you have even the faintest doubt WALK AWAY. Better to take you boots and have walked away from a deal, then using those same boots to kick yourself for getting suckered.

That reminds me, my grandfather years ago would always run his finger under the dash to check for dried silt/mud on used cars/trucks.....

He was from Mississippi where flood damage would show up....

Yeah better watch those crooked insurance companies (which is pretty much all of them) as they will be trying to unload all their flood salvage from cars to tractors and everything in between onto unsuspecting buyers across the country. There should be a federal law that requires insurance companies to only sell stuff declared as non repairable when a big flood like this occurs.

This thread is about as good as they get for me insofar as a "heads up". I just sold my Volvo BL70 and am looking for a small acreage tractor. I really appreciate all the great advice...

i have a buddy in the salvage car buisness and we bought some cars that was in neworleans during katrina and even the ones that didn't go under water we go a non repairable title which meant it could never be put on the road and we could sell the motors but could sell parts off of them i dont know how they would ever know you sold the motor but there was a fine if u got caught doing it
