Sounds like a Bell's palsey to me. OP is lucky. If it had been a stroke his impatience would probably have already cost him his life.
And yes, when Uncle Sam is your helathcare administrator it will be worse. Simply imagine going to the DMV for healthcare. America is going to just love it.

I work full time as a FF-EMT. Tuesday evening we responded to a 47 yo male down not breathing. He came home from work with heartburn and chest pain, told his wife and said he wanted to lay down. She took the kids (young teens by the looks) shopping. When she came back she found him down not breathing. We worked him for over 30 minutes, needless to say he didn't make it. Had he called us when he came home i'm betting he'd still be alive to see his kids grow.
Related story, I got home from work Wed. Good friend of mine called me to let me know he had 5 TIA's the day before and spent 5-6 hours at the hosp. He had stopped taking asprin a month ago because he felt like he was taking too many pills.
Warning signs are there for a reason, heed them and be patient, as well as be a patient. Sometimes we have to wait around to get it taken care of, b ut it's worth it. Otherwise, make sure your will is updated and your life insurance is paid-up.
