If it isn't much different than muffs or plugs that is fine.


I do some pretty rough work on a tractor at times.........ugly sounds are a cue sometimes to let up.

No different than normal muffs.

You dont need the volume on the radio loud to hear it. You can still hear the tractor over it. I can hear someone talking to me with the phones on and the radio playing.

I had a set of ryobi noise canceling headphones now I upgraded to a set of Bose ones that I got for chemical rewards program. Idon't need the music loud to hear it.

I find ear plugs are the best. But I have worn plugs and, when possible, noise canceling headphones for lengthy exposure (12 to 24 hours). After awhile you learn to detect small noise differences that may mean there is a problem.

I guess it's just me, but I can't see putting on ear muffs to cut the noise and then have a radio on which has to overcome the noise that gets through. It seems a little counterproductive. And who wants to listen to the garbage that's on the radio anyway? :thumbdown:

I agree, that's why I have a mp3 player to play music... Makes days like yesterday (baling, stacking, etc hay from 1PM to 11:45PM) go faster.

Well, if the noise that gets through is 20db less (or whatever your particular brand/model advertises) then you can listen to music and still reduce hearing loss.

I've got some noise cancelling earbuds. I wouldn't say they are awesome, but they do lower the volume of noise hitting my ears. I would say they're mildly better than foam plugs.

I have a Massey 1100 with a Perkins 354, exhaust is a 4 1/2" straight pipe. Muffler is on the to do list. I have a pair of Bose noise canceling and I can not say enough good things about them. As previously stated you don't have to keep the volume of the music turned up.

A muffler probably won't help much.

A perkins is a real diesel engine....... they will take your hearing if you don't wear protection..... but nothing like one loaded at 2200 RPM.

I use Peltor also but no tunes.
I prefer to hear everything that the machine is doing with no distractions.

My brother bought me a set of Elvex, QuieTunes ear muffs with AM/FM head phones. They are comfortable and they radio is great. I also use my iPod with these (no radio) or my forestry helmet. It's great.
