Heating Aluminum Case to Remove Oil Plug

Never thought Kroil was that good, always had better luck with PB Blaster.... Pipe dope is winner for taper threads, totally dislike PTFE tape, ...Anti-seize for bolts and nuts is still winner for me...

Its more of a fact than an opinion and based on a LOT of experience and only a little internet "research".

Hmm.. Don't assume.

I am not assuming about you and not at anyone in particular. Its kind of like engine oil, a lot of conclusions jumped to about bolts about feelings vs what is propper and accurate as much as factual. . This really shows up in practice with wheel lug nuts especially considering sheer numbers and skill level of installers. Even type of wheel. Seat too slippery and it damages alum wheel especially from repeated hits with impact.
There should be 2 specs,,, one with clean lightly lubed threads like it should be and then dry for the types dont really wanna do it right.

Engine rebuilding used to be routine maintenance. So many guyss got some of the basics thru is and got a feel for torque, for damaged threads, good threads, cleaning threads, oiling threads and got some comparison so they could feel the tightening in various size bolts. I would say the best might even feel the diffenence in bolt grade between soft and a hardened machine like grade 5 engine accys bolts.
There is torque wrench use for a few internal engine bolts then there is tight and farmer tight.
I directly do or oversee install more today and some grade 2 has crept in the collection and stock some. Other times and place only stock 5 due to the installers.
The strict spray policy has paid off, almost eliminated stuck and seized fasteners. We dont really do "some" but all, simple fender to structural with a bit more fuss to severe service, frame on trucks for example.

I did a consult for a concrete company, wheels loosening on the cement trucks. Rusty and dry they were and they dont wanna spray cause they "might loosen up" I had to ask,,, why am I here? Cause the bolts coming loose.
My "treats",,,, 12oz styrofoam coffee cups, paper towels and spray cans penetrating stuff. Bigger than duct tape and tie wire, Spray probably solves and prevents more problems than anything else we do.

That followed or tied with a little grease. Dale,,, I think the blaster is good for loosen, I forget what the chemist type said about it, something about attracting water somehow for installation and not so good. Really old cans of Kroil were really good, some delivered a drop or 2 at a time for long time then they raise the price and cheapen the can and it doesnt work right. My goal isnt to see how much mess I can make but to "install" the amount I want, as I mention severe service simply may mean more liberal with the spray to keep the water away. Spray nut and bolt, sometimes mating stuff etc.
Bumper bolts fall in to that category. Some of the brake caliper parts similar, they have factory special locktite coatings and we simply spray to assist in tightening. We get some extreme special instructions ,,,, space shuttle type stuff or internal engine parts they we follow instructions real carefull like but generalize and have a system been long proven to stay tight and come apart again.
