Do any of you guys use the fuel in your home Heating Oil tank to run your tractors?

I don't but you could install an electic pump and do so. The thought has entered my mind in the past. I had thought about buying a PTO generator for the times when our power goes out (not very often). It would certainly give me plenty of run time on the tractor/generator, since we have two oil tanks.

Well at the price of heating fuel (3.259) it is cheaper to have diesel (highway price is 345.0) delivered to the house and submit the paperwork to not pay the highway taxes, I think

I got three words for you guys that do not mind cutting some wood, Outdoor Wood Boiler!

2nd year on mine. I have not purchased propane for over a year and a half now. I used to burn over 1000 gallons in propane a year. No more. Now it is 8 to 10 chord of wood for my heat and hot water.
Hockeypuck,
Thanks for the heads up, I did check out outdoor wood boilers since you mentioned it. It looks pretty nice. How often do you ahve to feed the fire and how much do you put in at a time?

I have a small gas station with a single pump about half a mile from my house, so I just drive the tractor up there to fill it. My Steiner gets a five gallon can added when I remember that it hasn't had any lately. I have a 10KW generator for the Steiner and always figured the tractors were the reserve for it, plus the two hundred gallons in the company truck parked in the driveway could be added in case of a hurricane. Now the company truck isn't there, so my two tractors are all the reserve I have, so I need to make sure they are fuel during hurricane season. I like to keep a week supply on hand, but without that truck, it might become a storage problem.
