So the new BX24 was delivered yesterday! I asked for a post hole digger with a 9 inch auger and a 48inch box scraper as well. I didn't get any more specific than that on the implements as I am a total newbie in this department. What arrived was a Rankin RBS48 box scraper (in Deere green /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif) and a Rankin 601 post hole digger. Both of these devices seem extremely rugged. My concern is that they may be too rugged. The box scraper is 405 lbs. Scraper The BX24 manual says the max weight for a box blade is 375 lbs. Should I be concerned about that?
The digger is a Rankin PHD601, Digger, which says it is for tractors with 25-65 HP. The BX24 is only 23 Horse. This digger looks like it would cut through asphalt. Is this a little too much for my little tractor?
One more question. The levers for the loader and backhoe controls have a white residue that almost looks like lime on them that is tough to clean off. Can anyone recommend something to clean those babies with? CLR maybe? I know, I should be concentrate on digging with the thing, not polishing it, but I've never even owned a new car before. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I even had to kick a car out of the garage.

Congrats on the new machine! With 540 hrs in 14 months (BX23), I can assure you it will continue to amaze you with it's capability each hour.
My box scraper is 430# and works very well. I don't know what to think about some of Kubota's implement limitation recommendations and, so far I haven't found a reason to care /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
I don't have a real answer about the PHD but from the specs, it uses the same size output shaft and shear bolt size as the smaller models (and other brands) use. I wouldn't hesitate to use it.
Cheers!

Your problem is not with Rankin. I'm sure they make a decent product. However, I personally would be very upset with your dealer! They certainly were aware of your inexperience and should have been overly explanatory. They should not have sold you implements that exceed what Kubota says is maximum unless they thoroughly explained their reasoning and you voluntarily accepted them. That dealer also certainly knows that when someone makes the decision to "GO ORANGE", they want everything to be a matching orange! I have a feeling they just sold you what they had in stock and hoped you would never question it. I personally would return both implements immediately! Demand what you should have been given to begin with.
Just my 2 cents .......... but I would really be burned up over this.

My dealer offered me a standard sized tiller for my BX, but I told him I would like something that would cover the tracks in one pass. He told me he's sold a lot of BX's with 52" tillers. Yep, it's over what Bota says. I'm thrilled he could meet what I wanted.

I'm sure had I asked for a 12 ft tiller to fit on my BX, he would have balked.

Most dealers won't let you walk into something impossible; it's in their best interest to keep you happy.

Thanks a lot for the replies. What homebrew said about the weight limits jogged my memory about another thread I read on here. As I recall, someone was saying that they post a limit because if you were driving too quickly over rough terrain, the tractor might get damaged by the harmonic motion of the heavy implement. Keep the speed down, and no worries.
As to the color issue, I know I told him the color didn't matter on the post hole digger, since it only came in yellow. Perhaps he confused that with the scraper as well, but I would have appreciated a heads up on that one. As it is, I waited almost three weeks to get the tractor so I wasn't in a mood to refuse delivery on anything. Since the dealer is so far away and it wouldn't be very much fun to get the scraper in the back of my Subaru, I think I'm just going to get a some orange paint for both implements. My local NAPA store has a large auto paint section. I'm thinking I could just walk in there and ask for Kubota orange and they would know exactly what color that is. Any recommendations on grease guns and grease while I'm at it?
Thanks again.

If you have a Tractor Supply (TSC) near you, they carry Kubota Orange. If not, go to an auto-parts store and ask for Chevrolet Orange engine paint, it's almost an exact match for Kubota Orange.

Wow - 540 hours in 14 months - I thought I had a lot with 380 over about 19 months. Your butt must hurt from all the seat time! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I also own a green rankin and an orange(another orange) tractor. You'll get used to it. I've been told the rankin box is actually a woods product. It is very stout and weight is your friend on a box blade.

My question is how do you intend to set it on its bottom to hook up. 500 lbs will fall with a mighty thud.

Lets see, does he use the loader, or maybe the backhoe for that job? One more reason to own these machines, they can pick up their own toys!
