Buying Advice Hello All & JD 4115

For 17.5K You could have a brand new 2520 with either a 72" MMM or 62D Drive on MMM, 200CX Loader, IMatch Quick Hitch and probably some other goodies on the tractor depending on where you are looking.

Yeah, that sure was high! Can you say buyers remorse anyone?

Thanks for the feedback. From what I'm seeing out there for prices on other decent used equipment I may want to consider talking to a dealer about a 2520 or similar. I'm also looking at the x55 series (755, 855, 955) and a lot of FEL,MMM combos with under 2000 hours are well north of 10K if they're in decent shape. Add to that the cost of shopping - fuel, lunch and my boss wanting to shop enroute and the total cost of looking for a good deal is getting pretty pricey. Think I may head to the dealer to talk this weekend - at least there are no shopping stops or restaurants between home & the dealer...

I know what you mean. Shopping for a good deal takes a lot of patience and knowledge of what you want and the market value. I found my 855 in Illinois on MachineFinder(at a John Deere dealer) and had it shipped to Vermont and drove to get it there from Canada. I live 30 minutes from the border so not a huge deal. I saved several thousand dollars and I would do it again. The only thing is it took me several months to find it. I looked at a lot of tractors in order to learn what was a deal and not.
Basically, for a +-25HP, 4WD, Hydro, FEL, MMM, <1500hrs, in decent shape and in any of the major brands, I would say that between 5-7K is a good deal.

I still check prices from time to time and it seems like it is more expensive now than it was a couple years ago. The states where it seems cheaper still are Illinois, Pennsylvania and Alabama. I would not hesitate to purchase on MachineFinder remotely (there are only dealers on there) but for Craigslist, everything needs to be done in person. Same for ebay or other auctions unless you are dealing with a reputable dealer.
Just my :2cents:

Dsm - Appreciate the feedback. I am going to check out new, but really thinking a 7,8 or 955 may be the best fit for me. From what I've read they are well built, and think would be easier to maintain with less complicated controls/electrical. More my style as I like to do as much maintenance/repair work on my own as possible. Will look at pricing in different states a little more closely, that's an interesting point. As for pricing being higher now, that may be true. I'm seeing low mileage x55's in the 5-7K range without accessories, but not many under 10K with FEL, MMM, etc. Thanks again. Will let you know if I become a member of the x55 club...
