My name is Phil and my partner Christine and I live in Cottonvale, Queensland, Australia. I own a 1983 Kubota M6030DT orchid(narrow) tractor. It is in great condition thanks to the original owner and I love it. I also love my shed and my ute (1993 Hilux 4x4 diesel). We have 29 acres of ex orchid and market garden(pasture improvement definately required), but my aim is to raise our own cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and chooks - obviously not great numbers of each, but enough to satisfy our needs and perhaps some to sell. Currently, our son-in-law raises these animals for us and we pay the total costs including purchase, feeding, slaughter and butchering - about $4 per kilo total cost for beef and pork. Lamb (mutton) is free as we agist sheep for our neighbour and are paid in mutton. The better half (Christine) also runs a fairly large vegetable garden, so our supermarket needs are minimal.
Although we have had experience of country life before, this is the first time we have actually lived it. Four years now and we are loving it.
cheers,
Phil and Chris
