Hello!....and help!

Not sure it really applies, but my Lincoln was parked all winter and once spring arrived, the new battery from last fall was so dead nothing would happen. After two hours on a hot charge it would click. After two more it spun slowly and took off. I took it off the charger left it run for two hours and turned it off and tried restarting it, it would just click. Jumped it and let it run almost 4 hours before shutting it off. Next morning I tried it and it spun slow, but started. I drove it all day and it now starts normally.

A slow charge I never expect any results quicker than 8 hours. A fast charge will sometimes take a dead battery to usable in an hour, but not always. If the battery became extremely discharged, it can take a long time to charge it back up. You may also have a dead cell in the battery. I'd leave it on a slow charge for about 8 hours total then try it.

I have never understood how that valve worked, nor did it matter to me, but that was in the service manual, about opening the valve when you ran it out of fuel. I have never noticed any air or fuel discharge when opening the valve, and the tractor will run with the valve open. Any time I had a customer run one out of fuel, I told them about it and restarting has never been a hassle. Only the early made TYM made models with the Daedong engine, had it and I wish all of the tractors had it as it saves a lot of hassle.

Sorry, guys, I have been sick and am just now getting around to thank you for the comments and update you. Had to put a new battery in the JD. Thankfully, I did not burn anything up leaving it turned to the left overnight, which I think is to start glow plugs. Such a warm climate here, and we use the JD so much, we can just turn the key to the right and start it.

I have not been able to do any work on the Mahindra...the original problem. Did drag it to a shady place and out of the weather and it does have the valve that Galen mentioned. Apparently, the gas tank does not have a drain (looked all under and behind and cannot find one), so I am going to have to syphon fuel out and then disconnect fuel filter and hope engine turns enough to pump any remaining fuel. I'm not familiar with this tractor, just trying to help friends, so if there is a better way of draining the fuel, let me know.

Once the fuel and lines are drained, I am adding new fuel and a little oil as Texan suggested, and will begin trying to get it started again. If I can get fuel from the pump and then injectors, but it won't start, what the procedure for testing ignition system of a diesel?

Not enough cranking amps. Have battery checked with analyzer at auto store. Very well could be weak cell. How old is battery?
