I live on 50 acres on Blue Ridge Mountain in Virginia. I have about 3 acres of lawn and I am thinning out the trees on the lawn. I have been cutting the trees leaving a 2 or 3 foot stump so I can uproot the stumps with my Kubota tractor.

An alternative method would be to cut the stumps as close to the ground as the chain saw permits and then using some stump rotting chemical to get rid of the stumps and surface roots. I am going to search the forum for information about how well stump rotting chemicals actually work.

We too play in the Blue Ridge of Va. We don't live there..... yet ;). We hope to retire there and if I can I'd love to have a place there prior to retirement. We go there now and stay in a camper which is great, except it is getting cold now and a pain staying in the camper. I have a Kubota also and ues it, backhoe and grapple to remove trees and not leave too many stumps.

hello another option is to leave the stumps flush to the ground and just mow over it .
