Not sure on Ballast.Ill have to check the previous owner and see if he added any. What are they using for ballast now a days.I know the rear tires are tubed.
I havnt gotten into it to much as soon as I git it here i replaced the front spindle and hooked up the thermostart and thats about it so far.In the spring i need to pull the cowl and check wireing for temp gauge and oil pressure to see why they are not functioning. Then get the front bucket rams re packed.Been just plain to cold to do a lot with it.But spring time a lot will get a very close looking over.

Welcome from Ortonville! I see a craigslist ad for a set of tire chains in another state. Good price but you'd have to figure out how to get them here.

Well, liquid ballast is the cheapest option to improve traction for a 2wd tractor with loader. The larger ag tires hold allot of liquid and will perform well in snow when they are loaded. Calcium Chloride is the least expensive and heaviest. Windshield washer fluid, and antifreeze solutions are also used. There are also do it yourself kits available for adding liquid to the tires. Rim guard is a pricier option that will probably give you sticker shock. There are many threads on this topic here.

If you have liquid in the tires you can usually tell this time of year with the damp weather and temps bouncing up and down past the freezing point. The liquid in the tires takes longer to warm up and condensation forms on the lower part of the tires that have liquid in them. The sweat line can show you the liquid fill level on the right days. Cracking the shrader valve could also tell you, but you can get sprayed in some nasty stuff if the valve doesn't reseat, and if the valve is in a down position you could lose some fill. If you jack a back tire off the ground and spin it by hand you'll be able to tell also.

The weather is in the upper 30's and low 40's for december. This is practically t-shirt weather for us Michiganders. Plenty warm enough to work on equipment. :D

Welcome to the forum. I'm just north of you on the side of TC. It shouldn't have too much issue moving right now. We hardly have any snow

Yes it is super55 but the radical weather changes kick my azz.I just wish it would settle into a normal pattern here.Weather effects my MS bad .
Last year at this time we had 36 inches of snow on the ground and it was colder than a well diggers *** but this time its in the 20s to 30s and no snow at all.

Update on chains.I looked high and low and even begged like a liberal for chains lol.
I couldnt touch a set for under 600 around here.I went on craigs list and found 2 new sets of chains for a semi for 100.I took a chance on them but they were just to small. So me being who i am I took the 2 sets and cut the dise chains off each set.Split 50 links and spliced the sets together. After re welding the links back in i ended up with 1 set total at 32 inches wide to cover the wheel.I then had to add 2 feet in length to the total chain length to get them to about 12 feet long.Added 2 more ladder or cross links to the set.Now I have 1 complete set at 32 inches wide and 12 feet long. All welded up I drug them over to the tractor and walaaaaaaaaaaa got them on and they work great.I can now play in the ice and snow with no problems.Total cost was 110.00 and about 5 hours labor.
