Hello everyone and thank you for letting me on (the) board.

Name's Markus and I live on an about 5 acre parcel in Mill Village on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada - which is about 150 klicks south-west of Halifax off Hwy 103.
Originally from Switzerland I've been on the South Shore for over 24 years but only resently decided to make this place my new 'Home Town'.
I am halfway through my projected 100 years, retired IT pro, single, good lookin' ;) and as my handle (given to me by friends) implies I am happy in keeping to myself and enjoying the peace & quietness, solitude & tranquillity of these great Canadian outdoors. Mind you, I have a ton of friends :D (and maybe make a few more here ) which I see quite regulary and am involved in the local community. To clear my mind I love to ride my VStar (when the sun's out) or play the piano (when it's raining).

I am planning on building an addition to my home and therefore need to do some ground work and dig some holes and trenches for the foundation. The South Shore is strewn with big rocks and boulders and I fear my hacking away with a pick will just not do the trick.
I think I just woke up one morning after dreaming of picks and shovels :confused2: and decided I need (want) to have a tractor with a backhoe for the job. New to the game I therefore needed to educate myself a bit about this topic. I readily admit I've already been lurking around for a while reading through many interesting threads to gather some knowledge & insight about tractors and finally decided to 'pay my dues' by signing up and introducing myself a bit.

So here I am. :newhere:

Cheers
Markus

Welcome.

For the foundation and clearing work consider a larger rental tracked hoe with operator. When the major work is done then thinke "Homeowner machine".:)

But it sure don't hurt looking around. The valley has Dealerships with lots of Eye Candy.

Oh, and think about Feathers & Wedges and making some landscape rocks. Not hard, power tools used.

Hi there, DieselMonk and thanks.
Yep, that's were it is. The SES is still there (on the north side of the 103) but is in a desolate condition. What a shame to let such a facility go to waste.
I am south of the 103.
