We have 73 acres in Claiborne County, TN., and are planning to retire there in 2017 from Michigan. We had timber harvested 3 years ago, including clearing about 6 acres at the top of the hill. That 6 acres now is solid raspberries, both red and black. 4 foot high thorn bushes all knotted impassively together, with probably 30 saplings also growing up from stumps.
The property is VERY hilly, rising 500 feet from the lake to the top. It is just under 1/2 mile from the pavement to our property, with another similar stretch of road continuing to the top of our hill.
We plan to build a garage, either pole or stick, this year at the top of the hill. Additional structures will follow starting next year. In addition to the construction activity, my biggest job will be (I think) maintaining the roads. They are rocky clay, barely usable now after being restored following the logging. They are also quite steep, mostly also cut into the hillside. I expect a tractor will be the appropriate tool for this work, and am hoping to leverage your experience to help me select the right one.
