I am new to tractors, but I just put a deposit on a 1990/91 John Deere 770 and loader with 700 hours. I just need to go get my trailer to pick it up, and pay for it, this weekend.

This is my first tractor, aside from riding lawn mowers, and it will mainly be used on my dad and I's 20 acre hunting land in norther lower Michigan. Food plots and trail creation mainly.

I admit I didn't look too long for a tractor, but found this one on Craigslist and jumped on it.

The things I liked about this tractor was the manual geared transmission. My thought is they would be stronger and less complex then a hydrostatic. Which is a blind guess on my part....

Also, this compact tractor seems larger and hopefully built a little more "beefy" then the new sub-compacts of today.

I can't afford a new one, and for the price I gave for this one, $9300, all I found in that price range were newer used sub-compacts. I think the sub-compacts may have been a little too small for what I need.

I learned my lesson on trailers, buying two trailers that were too small before finally buying a larger trailer.

Congrats on your new, to you, tractor.

Do you have the maintenance logs on the tractor? If you don't know when and what was used on the last maintenance cycle, you had better do a complete cycle to insure it has been done correctly.
