Running other posters down and calling them stupid is not often found on Tractor by Net, but it seems some are more interested in denigrating others than engaging in a civil discussion.

The simple fact is that nothing any of us say on here is going to change anything, so why get so bent out of shape if someone has an opposing opinion or simply poses a theoretical point to further the discussion.

Good grief this is getting to sound a lot like "all those other forums."

I have said this to my kids and grandkids repeatedly, "If you can't play together without fighting, just leave each other alone."

This truly is my last post on this.

Agreed!

When an exchange of OPINIONS descends into name calling, it's time to move on!

I have zero interest in participation in internet arguments that get nowhere...

And the back of his helmet broke his neck...I'm not saying he should or shouldn't have worn one. Once again, you're arguing the device. They can be good in some situations and bad in others.

Go educate yourself and read the autopsy report before inserting foot in mouth. He was a very popular figure who many liked. Without any doubt or debate, a helmet did not kill him!

Id love to see a single report where a helmet caused a death.

Im sure someone will dig one out of the archives... 1 death in 1,000,000 Perhaps they put the helmet on backwards and suffocated;), but in the vast, overwhelming majority of accidents, helmets save lives.

Especially a modern lightweight helmet.
For those who dont want to wear a helmet, take a look at the crash pictures at: Motorcycle helmet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and tell me if you want that to be your face with the abrasions rather than the helmet

Oh, I wish I could find it now. A college buddy sends me goofy pictures all the time and one of them was a picture of a woman who weighed about 300 pounds on a moped and she DID have her helmet on backwards!!! I laughed until I cried, especially when I saw the two giant McDonald's bags she was carrying with her!

A few years back in Florida there was a terrific battle about requiring motorcycle helmets. All sort of experts testified. The law was passed.

A few days later four teenagers were cited for wearing helmets in a car. The citation was for visual impairment while driving. When the case came up, the teenage driver brought out newspaper clippings where the experts had testified that motorcycle helmets do not impair vision.

The judge threw the citation out.

So I guess the right to prove one's self to be an idiot on a motorcycle is still alive....until it hits a curb anyway....

One needs to pick their battles. Standing up for basic rights is admirable. Standing up for the right to have no common sense might not be representing that argument in a very positive light.

No, I DO NOT think laws requiring wearing a helmet on a tractor are anywhere on the horizon.

Simply stating that the statistics appear to show that good sense enough to keep government out of ones life also coincides with ones good sense for preservation.:D

I wont say helmets, but allow the gvt to force CDLs down a tractor operators throat set up a nasty spiderweb of many other "needs" to keep operating. There are a lot of department heads out there looking for job justification.

No picking a battle here, I already made a decision. I ride off road and on, have since 1986. I LOVE riding a streeter without a helmet, yet the destroyed MX helmet on my shop wall reminds me daily that it is the reason I am still here to stoke the fires.

I don't want ANYONE forcing me to do anything, but in the case of helmets, thinking I have to pay for those who didn't wear pushes the decision quite a ways.

We currently have three teenagers from two seperate atv accidents in the critical condition. NONE were wearing helmets, all three have severe head injuries. At the same time, same weekend aamof, two young adults are also critical with head injuries after a car accident in which they were ejected due to no seatbelts.

To me, helmets (and seatbelts) having to be enforced is akin to OSHA requiring labels for guards on machines. A little good sense should tell one that the results of being in the wrong place at the wrong time will not be good for ones personal well being.

Quote from 1984 CR125R shop manual: "Do not check fuel level with open flame" What?
