What is the voltage from the alternator? Are you using a Volt/Ohm meter to measure?

I will recheck it and let u know- it was a few wks ago when I checked it ( the alternator is only a few months old my father put it on) I believe it was having the same problems then- we use the tractor once in awhile

Considering that you have a fairly new alternator, the next thing to check is the regulator. With the alternator unplugged from the regulator, measure the AC volts coming from the alternator with the engine running. You should see something around 20 volts AC. If the regulator is generating good DC power to the battery, then you should see something like 13-14.5 volts DC on the battery. If it's down around 12, then you probably should think about changing the regulator.
