One thing I wished, is in the rules I wished they would ask Original Posters to always do a follow up post. The final resolution is usually the most important
part!

mfreund and others (including a very polite PM I received :) ) are all correct. I absolutely should have followed up sooner. It was always my intent, but I have been a little under the weather lately, and traveling. I was in "in the grip" of something intestinal, not to put too fine a point on it. In fact, I feel much improved, but nothing tastes right yet. Weird.

Firstly, I'd like to thank those that told me where to find the data tag--finally, my g.f. found it on her own, but the confirmation was nice. It's a little newer than he said--when I post pics, I'll post the data tag, which I believe contains a "DOM," which I assume is "Date of Manufacure?"

I wanted to thank folks individually, but I don't really feel up to that now. I would like to say that I was very pleased with the depth and consideration of the thought put into your responses--especially from those that have the same model (!).

I am no longer "hot" for this deal at all and, while the gentleman is very kind and smart (We're trying to buy his house right now) I believe I may pass on the purchase of the JD. The trouble is, the g.f. doesn't feel comfortable driving the B3030 I don't own yet, and I'm not in shape to change implements for her yet, anyway. And no man of woman born can teach my g.f. how to drive my clutch/belt Arien's mower--or any standard transmission vehicle, let alone one with a "Hi" and a "Low" range, helpful, sometimes, on steep downslops.

But the J.D. IS on site, where we will need it, at the new place, while we will still need the 'ol Arien's at the old place, as we prepare to sell our old house. And the (as yet unpurchased) B3030 will have to stay home, at the old place, to help me load stuff up. So a belly mower under that won't help yet, either. And I'll still need a smaller rider for the steeper angles around the new place.

So perhaps, the J.D. will be a short-term money looser, if I do buy. I'd love to show the seller the thread of your honest comments on the topic, but I fear he would take it the wrong way, like I was trying to run down his lifelong judgment in equipment or something (which of course I am not), which I'm sure would not go down well with a builder, retired, or no--LOL. But based on what I've read here, I wouldn't feel comfortable offering more than $1,000., and I'm not wild about it at that.

I just lack the time and will to put energy into the search for another rider mower, when I'm trying to find a B3030HDC, plus replace "her" car (can't turn the traction control and stability control off EVEN IF you NEED to spin the wheels a little, to get where you're goin'--just because it's a hybrid. The gas models allow the turning off of one system, if not both--not sure yet.). Every other car I've driven with traction AND stability control has allowed you to turn off these systems, when necessary. So it's studded snows all 'round and probably car-swappin' time in the spring.

So, the J.D. might just have to join the fleet, warts and all, just because it's there-we'll see.

I will try to attach some pics, later, as I know we all like pics.

Thank you, one and all, for your VERY specific, well-thought-out and written advice. And I agree--there SHOULD be a rule requiring OP's to "come back." My problem is, I've got to come back on some old Kubota threads from before a lot of things went sideways for me in early 2011. But I need more info, so I will close those threads up too!

Thanks again, to all.

Sincerely,

My Hoe
