3-Point Hitch Help! Broke tang where lift arm attaches to tractor

Welding would certainly be a possibility. Cast iron is weldable. But to see the extent of your damage, could warrant the proposed solution of fabricating a bracket in place. It also depends on your own skills and available repair equipment. A new casting will not reinforce a week spot unfortunately. So it could brake again down the road. Home made mods are oftem prove to be the best solution vs replacing parts. Good luck to you;)

Thanks but I'd be hesitant to weld cast iron. It's doable but plagued with problems and the end result would not be durable.
I don't think this is an inherent weak spot in the casting. In some respects this is a result of my own negligence, I knew the set screw that secures the retaining pin was gone. What I think happened is the retaining pin backed out putting all the weight/stress on the tab and it broke. The irony is that I had purchased a new set screw and was going to replace it right after I finished tilling.
There's a moral to this story...........

if ya still have the bits might try welding it up, cast is not too hard to weld, have to make sure the cast is free of grease, heat it real good. Grind the are so plenty of filler goes back in. Heat it and weld small patch (inch or so of bead) and peen it using the pointy end of a chipping hammer. Keep this process up letting it cool slightly between welds. make a post in the welding forum for good advice & have at it most it costs you is some rod and time. I have not welded any cast in 15 years, using AC Buzz Box or DC reverse polarity & keeping it good & warm cooling slowly is key. Dont let it cool too fast or get too hot & do multiple passes.

I guess welding is a moot point as I couldn't find the broken part. I guess I buried it while tilling.

Thanks,

Metal detector? I would want that broken piece just for alignment purposes to aid in the bolt on repair.
