Welding would certainly be a possibility. Cast iron is weldable. But to see the extent of your damage, could warrant the proposed solution of fabricating a bracket in place. It also depends on your own skills and available repair equipment. A new casting will not reinforce a week spot unfortunately. So it could brake again down the road. Home made mods are oftem prove to be the best solution vs replacing parts. Good luck to you
