I'll predict lousy gas mileage, but otherwise a mighty nice truck /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

Larry,

Congrats on the truck. As a former Ford owner, I don't really have anything against Fords, mine served me well for seven years.

As far a mods, nerf bars/running boards are handy for smaller folks. Decent tie-down straps are good for cargo, or maybe a cargo net. A cable & locks to keep your cargo in the bed while you're not around. A good hitch and balls could cost a couple of bucks. I like hard tonneau covers myself, but it depends what type of cargo you haul, or maybe the semi-rigid retractable types. Just some ideas.

As far as the Chevy being a Isuzu , they are a joint venture with G.M. and are made here in Dayton Ohio. I sometimes haul parts in there from the airport and they seem to come from all over, although i haven't hauled any in that were flown in from Japan. I'm sure there are some from Japan, but i myself haven't seen them.

A deer catcher up front.

What about hitches and trailer wiring harness?

Shell for the back.

Larry congratulations on your purchase.

Dave,

I own Ford and Deere because I like their products and feel they are the best out there. If someone else gave me the value for my dollar that they did I would switch. By no means am I blindly brand loyal.

As far as the problems I mentioned that is from guys like myself that use their trucks hauling for a living. We regularly hook up 25-30k to these trucks. And yes the guys I know that do this the dodge auto is a big no no. Even with the updated one. Most guys I know that are hauling with the Dodge are putting new brakes on every 10k. But put the 6 speed with the cummins and you've got a great machine with the exception of the brakes. Also in all the towing tests Ford won hands down.

I meant a crew cab not the quad cab. I believe Dodge would increase sales dramatically if they offered a crew cab.

Also I was also mistaken and thought you had the cummins motor. If you don't have the diesel then no you probably will never have a problem with that transmission. But put that cummins torque monster behind it and it eats it the auto for lunch with heavy towing. Why Dodge has not come out with a five or six speed heavy duty auto transmission I'm not sure of either.

I can't understand why Dodge would not have found a solution to the front brake problem by now. A cousin bought one of the V-10 Dodge trucks the first or second year they were out (can't remember just when that was), a fine truck except for lots of problems with the front brakes.

Thanks for your thoughts. next year the V-10 Triton will be available with the Torqueshift tranny. Mine will be the standard tranny that is currently offered. From what I have been able to read and do the research it should not be a problem. Best,
Larry

Larry, I think I would stick with the 3/4 ton. I think some states look at a 1 ton truck as commercial, and as such, tags and personal property tax is much higher. Did you know that the Farm Bureau has a $500 rebate on new Dodges?

Also, you may want to consider "slightly used". Start looking on Autotrader.com. I found my truck on there, it was bought by the original owner almost a year ago and traded in February. Its an SLT with the standard cummins engine. Over about 7 tanks of fuel I average 17.5 mpg. Hiway mileage around 21-22, city around 14-15. I'll try to attach a picture of my truck with tractor and trailer. Mileage as shown is 14-15, mostly hiway.

I'm a Dodge fan, but I do like the Ford 3/4 and 1 ton pick ups. I do like the GM, I just don't care for their styling. My Dad has a GMC and its plenty capable Buy same as a your tractor-the best deal at the best dealer you feel good about.

Doc,

The Dodge is rated at only 16K max. If the Ford goes that high, then I'm truly impressed and I'll change my vote to Ford.
