One of my managers in a Sgt in the Indiana Army National Guard. She was recently activated and is on her way to Camp Phoenix, just outside of Kabul, Afghanistan.
Living conditions in Camp Phoenix are somewhat less than we are all used to and the culture of Afghanistan is such that women are not even supposed to go off the base. My manager is up for an 18 month tour of duty there. The one thing she asked for was as many DVD's as I could find, gather, beg, borrow or steal. Apparently the DVD's are all shared between the troops that are stationed there, but that not many people bring them. My company is sending over a DVD player that will connect up the the TV set they have in the rec hall, and we are buying and collecting DVDs with the hope of sending at least 100 different titles. But duplicate titles are not a problem because there are supposed to be TV sets in most of the barracks in addition to the rec area so the DVD's may end up scattered around the base in various areas.
So what I am asking for is your help, if you would choose to do so. If you have any DVD's in your home collection that you could send to the troops, or if you feel like buying some and sending them, then we will be sending over a care package in LATE-JUNE 2004, I would be happy to include any DVD's you send me, along with any notes or cards or other things you might be willing to send. Music CD's would also be very welcome so if you have any of those you want to clean out of your collection, we'd glady ship them over too.
If you would like to help, please send them to:

To make the first shipment, I would need whatever you send no later than June 15, 2004. We will probably be sending over packages on a monthly basis for at least 1 year. And if you have any questions or concerns about the legitimacy of my company and sending me things, please go to my profile where you will find a link to my company and it will include my private email and a phone number so you contact me if you are unsure of my actual intent.
