Hey Guys, I just want to say THANKS.

FedEX showed up at my office today and I got a $100 check & a note from one of you who didn't have any DVDs, but wanted to help. So I went on EBAY and bought $150 in DVDs (I'm chipping in the other $50).

And I also got a package containing 5 brand new movies, no note, no return address!

So obviously posting on this site was the right thing to do!!!

Bob,
I think you may get some contributions from non-members and may never reveal themselves.

I'll see what we have at home tonight.

Inspector507 . . . I guess I don't care where the contributions come from, I am just glad to see that people are taking time to support these men and women who are over there.

Hey guys . . . another round of THANK YOU to a selected group.

UPS arrived today with a box, it contained 6 brand new DVDs.
USPS arrived today, it contained 8 more.

As of now, it looks like we will try to set up a simple library system at Camp Phoenix so the soldiers can "check out" the DVDs and return them to a central point. One of my employees came up with that idea and is using a computer to make us simple "library cards" that will be attached to the backs of the DVD boxes so it will be easy to know who has "rented" a DVD and when it was checked out so a waiting list of some sort could be made up when it is returned.

Anyway, thanks again. We hope they continue to come in and see the pile grow.

Bob,

Could you list what DVDs you do have so we don't get to many of the same copies?

You still need the packages by the end of , well say the middle of June?

Later,
Dan

DUPLICATE DVDs are NOT a problem.

Here is what I have been told. Many people have individual DVD players but only a handful of DVDs. The base has TV sets in several areas, but not all have DVD players. I am sending a DVD player. So far I have collected and/or donated about 60+ DVDs with promises from many people for more. As of right now, I don't have any duplicates.

But if any duplicates come in, that is OK because it is very possible that the DVDs will be loaned out all over the base so it just makes it easier for more people to enjoy a popular movie.

The biggest surprise is that most of the DVDs that have come in are BRAND NEW and STILL SEALED in their packaging. I have asked friends and you folks to simply look through your old DVDs to see what you no longer watch. But rather than doing that, it appears that about 70% of the DVDs have been purchased and donated just for this effort.

Bob,
I got permission today to send a mass e-mail to the 200 employees in our building about this. I have set up a collection box in my office that should be filling soon I hope.

Thanks for the effort..........

Inspector507 -- THANK YOU -- I've gotten several private emails about this and generally from people asking what they can do to help.

My take is this. You don't have to help with my effort, I just hope that my efforts have opened the eyes of people who can do something for a soldier from their town or their chuch or they place of work. Could you image if this type of effort was duplicated across America with only 1 person out of every 100 donating something? The troops would have more than they could ever ask for. It doesn't matter if it is DVD's like I am asking for, or if it home made cookies and letters of support. Anything, in any little way, will be greatly appreciated by someone who is very far away from home, very lonely, and probably secretly afraid.

I will take all the help I can get. But if anyone else comes up with a novel idea to help soldiers then that is great too.

Hey all, I just thought I would pass on some great new.

First a package from FED EX arrived today and 3 more movies were enclosed.

Second, one of the guys on this forum, our very own Inspector507 deserves some extra credit points for his efforts. He informed me that he has collected 30 DVDs at his place of work.

Third, I was speaking with the Camp Atterbury family preparedness liaison lady today and she said that they were talking to someone down there who is involved with a Boy Scout Troop. So the Boy Scouts troop there is now starting to work with the Family Video stores in that area to collect even more DVDs.

The DVDs I collect and the Boy Scout's DVDs will very likely be combined into one large library.

But now the Camp liaison asked me if I knew anything about digital projectors? Anyone have a clue about those? I know I own one here at the office, but I have no clue how to work it, they use it in our sales office.
