Tell the wife to move her boody over the spinning tire. If there still isn't enough traction tell her see needs to eat more. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Or better yet, cause noone wants a wife 2 ax handles wide, tell her to 'hit that sip'y hole with some speeeed or else you'll get bog'd down in the quagmire'. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

On a bit more of a serios note, you may need to replace the rear tires with some bar tread tires. The only way I know of to get a LGT with diff lock is to spend near $10k for new or maybe $5k used. Tires may be cheapest.

I had to add 75# wheel weights to the rear tires of my Cub Cadet and it still was getting stuck. I finally ended up with SNOW CHAINS on the tractor YEAR ROUND to keep it moving. I have some steep hills, but the only way we could keep from getting stuck was weights and chains. We still spun the wheels a lot on the slopes, but at least we kept moving.

we have the same problem when pulling the 24" x4' roller filled with water up just about any thing if it is damp. dry it does really well. I sometimes end up having to stand on the pulling hook to get more weight to the rear tires. again I think it needs some LUG type tires or chains would be easies to fix do though...

Everyone's lawn and ground conditions vary - but in my experience bar tires on a light garden/lawn tractor are superior to the normal turfs. Somewhere, somehow they may leave a mark, but better than the constant skid marks you wear when slipping a turf tire going through those 'bad' spots every week. Go for the bar tires and then go to liquid fill or wheel weights if still needed. Chains are an easier alternative but not quite as effective on sod in my experience (snow might reverse that order).

One additional tip that has not been mentioned is using the brakes.

If you are lucky enough to have individual brake pedals, lightly apply pressure to the spinning wheel side while continuing motion.

If you only have one brake pedal that works both sides, applying some pressure can still help slow down the spinning wheel to transfer power to the other through the differential.

I would add weight, either liquid or steel (see www.ezweights.com ) before changing tires. Chains may be a good option if your problem is seasonal or one particular area or hill.

Bar or aggressive knobby tires will also help, but will be most effective in conjunction with additional weight.

After getting stuck repeatedly while tilling with my 17hp garden tractor I grabbed an old pair of automobile chains and modified them to fit my tractor tires. A pair of vise grips with cutters in the back will cut the links. Takes a couple of squeezes and adjustments. I make a deep nick and then with two vise grips in plier mode bend the link to break it and spread it apart so I can get it off the other links. I actually do this to all my chains to custom fit them to the auto tires they are going to be used on. The chains worked so well on the tractor that I left them on for 10 years. I mow about 2 acres and have some rough areas and steep hills. The chains were the perfect solution for me! After I bought my Kubota I took off the chains. If I get stuck now I just pull the mower out with the tractor...
One suggestion for your wife is to lift the mower deck the moment she gets stuck, and also the guide wheel height adjustment. Most of the times when I get stuck it is because of limited ground clearance keeping the driving wheel from contacting the ground well.
