HELP! Hitch stuck in receiver on my truck!

Seems like we spend a buck t' save a dime, sometimes! one of the past vehicles I was selling, I wanted to keep the stinger to use on the new car. I couldn't get that sucker loose to save my life! I found out that it's not a good idea to leave them in for a long time. Grit starts getting in there, especially from dusty roads, and acts like a bunch of little cams. They start binding together and tightening the harder you pull/push. It ended up going with the car. $25 wasn't enough to beat me and the car up about. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Just like a ground mole.........NEVERSEIZE ??? It's cheap and a medium size bottle lasts for years !!

Try a slide hammer.. or if you can finagle a little bottle jack to press against the ball.. and something else solid that should get it to move.

Duh, yeah! A large slide hammer is about the only tool I've bought at Harbor Freight that hasn't broken. That ought to work. I'd advise wearing good heavy gloves when using one though. If the meaty part of your hand, on the pinky side, lays over the slide part when you slide it back, you'll get one heck of a blood blister if it doesn't just smash the skin open. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Oh yeah, you know why I know this! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Success!!! I had to pull the whole hitch from the truck and press it out with a 20 to press. It even made the press work hard! Ground off all the paint and Never siezed before flipping it and putting it back. Has a lose fit now! What a PIA!

The only problem is that Neverseize can wash off with water if exposed. This happened to my hitch on my old 1988 Blazer that I owned. I couldn't get it out after it was in for 3 years. It was rusted solid and the new owner has it now.

Twice I've had people bump me from behind in traffic when I've had my hitch in. Significant damage to the offender and not a mark on my truck. I always have my hitch in with the locking pin.

I have learned to keep my hitch in all the time even when I am not using it. I have had two cars hit me from behind while sitting at a stop light. The hitch sure save my vehicle from any damage. One of the vehicles had to be towed it was so bad. Rammed the radiator all the way back to the motor. I keep a 2" and a 2-5/16" with me all the time and I have to change them from time to time so they don't get stuck in the reciever. The only problem is I tore up my chins a bit walking in the back of my truck. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
