Now if you want that hitch to fall freely out all by itself, just hook up your trailer and load it with something priceless then drive up a big hill. If its ever gonna come out it will then! (joke.. don't do this for real) /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Scozz,

No problem. I know how to get it out.

1. Find the longest big chain or steel cable you can find. Do not use a nylon sling.

2. Attatch it around someone else's really big tree.

3. Attatch the other end to the hole in your hitch with a shackel.

4. Put a big sheet of 3/4" plywoor across the rear window of your truck.

5. Put on a motorcycle helmet.

6. Get in your truck and put on your seat belt.

7. Back up to the tree until the bumper is almost touching.

8. Drive forward and see if the hitch comes out. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

9. If you damage your truck, call your insurance agent and hope he is not in your church. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck and tell me if it works.

The time it happened to me, I was looking for something to try out my hand-held band saw on. Sliced that sucker off even with the receiver as slick as you please. Traded it in soon after that...

No amount of pulling would get my hitch out of the receiver this past September. It required sharp blows with a maul hammer with some oak board to protect the ball. I hit it horizontally (each way) then rearward for about an hour before it gave in. I recalled afterward that I was rear-ended 2 years ago and the reciever must hace been slightly bent without my noticing... all I noticed was the rear & front bumpers being pushed in and some kid telling me that it wasn't his fault! 3 cars stopped at a light - he crests a hill and slams the last car in line, who slams into my rear, pushing me into the truck in front of me. He really thought that the car that was pushed into my rear would have to pay my damages.

I do the same....

My 350 Ford sits high and I keep my drop hitch in the receiver most of the time. I had some lady in a Kia Sportage rear end me. All I felt was a little nudge. It totalled the Kia. My hitch was right in the front of the motor, through the ac condenser, radiator, water pump and the front of the block. Her hood went right under my step bumper, No damage, took the dirt off my step plate. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A little tip, I keep my hitch swabbed with grease. Comes right out. Just don't lay it inside your truck, keep it in a plastic bag so you don't grease your carpet.

I have had the same problem with my yard truck hitch and have yet to resolve it. To make matters worse, I was stopped by a MA State Trooper for having it on without having a trailer hitched to it when I went into town for gas. In MA, you have to remove it for all the reasons listed above, if not, you are subject to a ticket, where you can explain it to the judge. As for people walking into it, you can and will get sued if someone is seriously hurt. Most people are not kind when something cripples them and the person that is responsible could have prevented their injury by removing the offending trailer part.

That trailer hits law thing is weird... Some class 1 hitches are non removeable.. same with some 'bumper' step down hitch plates.. like reese sells.

If someone isn't paying enough attention and walks into a tounge.. ?? perhaps they were um.. walking too close to a vehicle anyway? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Seems like they would have simply hit my vehicle in some other location if a tounge wasn't there.. like say.. a side mount mirror. I've seen many on 1/2 tn trucks that are oem and quite large.

I'm all for protecting people that get hurt from a dangerous situation.. but I'm also for um.. having less dumb people too /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Consumer protection laws teeter on a very slipery slope. While they do keep companies working towards safety.. they also slowly erode our collective rights...

Just my opinion... Course I get a kick out of the 'darwin awards' as well. Nothing like reading about bon-headed people helping expidite natural selection... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

If someone is walking that close to the back of a truck, they are probably trying to see what tools are in the back that they can "borrow". /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
