MDBarb is there any way possible to have a retrial, I didnt follow this lthread in the beginning but something popped into my head. My brother works for an accident /re-creation company. THey can prove certain things like the tractor incident, thay can check for damage to the cars as well as disprove the claims about the car shining its lights. They also have a great amount of pullwith the courts. They work for major companies lke Yamaha, Firestone,Ford, and the USgovt. PM me if youd like their name and number.
My prayers are with you and your family and I hope from trhe bottom of my heart they get whats comming to them very soon.

I was waiting anxiously to hear how the neighbors got hammered. I'm totally speechless. Were the psychiatrists there for the neighbors. If they were, how could the jury ignore 2 diagnosis of paranoia? How does a trial over property rights drag on for 5 days? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

"If you need to start a fund, post where to send it and I'll deposit a few bucks!"

Thanks, nice thought - but if I had a dollar for EVERY post on TBN it still wouldn't cover it /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I've talked briefly with a bankruptcy attorney and there is a very real possibility we could lose the property.
I'm counting on the judge reducing the award next month, but even if she cuts it in half....
Well we have our health. And my sense of humor is still in here somewhere /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Unbelievable /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Can you protect your property with a homestead exemption? A quick search on google said it may be possible for each family member to declare the whole exemption amount.

You need a real sleazy, aggressive attorney at this point. What happened to your insurance company?

Good Luck,
Kevin

You are handling it much better than I would be. I'm not sure what I would do but the thoughts are anything nice.
I'm sure the judge will reduce the amount. Maybe like the judge did in the one case where he reduced a million dollar suit to $1 and since it was punitive, they got $3.
Good luck and I hope the judge has better sense than the jury.

I've gone through a little bit of hell myself recently. The legal system slowly but surely worked and truth finally prevailed. Don't lose hope.

Not necessarily, what he needs is the lawyer who donated the most to the judge's last re-election campaign. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So far as I understand it, the homeowners excemption will only protect my first $50,000.

Does anyone know if a personal umbrella liability insurance policy would cover something like what has happened here?

An advertisement on the Internet says: (personal umbrella liability insurance)... the plan’s attractively priced premiums allow you to choose from $3- to $5-million of additional liability coverage. The plan includes additional features covering certain liability claims that may not be covered by your primary policy, such as slander.

I read someplace else that the exemption was $50k for an individual and $75k for a couple. Not great but better than nothing. It would seem to me that the value of your property just took a major plunge.....who would want to buy any property next to somebody they KNOW is going to sue them?

There's a reason all those Enron guys own houses in Florida /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Bird, you are correct. I wonder why attorneys don't advertise that type of thing in the yellow pages?
