I used to be able to buy 10w-30 CI-4 oil packaged by a company called Champion Lubricants. The place I used to buy it doesn't have any now, so I guess I'll use 15w-40 Delvac. I liked the 10w-30 especially for winter as I thought it made starting a tad easier.

Isn't Mobil1 CF diesel rated? It seems like I remember seeing that on it at one time.

FWIW, I was in an O'Reilly Auto Parts yesterday buying a headlight bulb for #2 daughter's car and lo and behold...they carry Rotella 10w-30. At least this store did.

I don't know how big of a chain O'Reilly's is but it seems they are everywhere here in the Midwest.

We do have an O'Reilly near by. I'll check with them next time.

Ins south carolina the different viscosity is probably not going to matter much. The first number is just an indication of how it flows at cold temperatures. 5 w-40 will flow easier in cold weather than 15-40 will. The way it has been explained to me they are both a 40 weight oil when they get up to temperature but it is the initial starting of the engine where the difference comes into play. You might want to look at this website to see what the different numbers mean What do oil viscosity numbers mean? Learn about motor oil, synthetic and regular.

Dan, even though the Group III semi-synthetic 5W-40Shell Rotella T has a relatively low TBN, it still is a moderately decent oil for diesel service as long as it is changed out routinely prior to the TBN getting lower than 5, the soot level getting over 1%, or the oxidation-nitration getting too high.

I've been using it my Chevy 350 Z-71 gasser since it first came out and it is great in gasoline engines as long as it is changed regularly, also have been using it in my air cooled gasoline Honda Four Wheelers, Minibikes,Pressure Washer, Log Splitter, etc.

I would recommend it for almost all gasoline engines, as long as you change it every year.

I have been told that Honda does not advise the use of syn. oils in cycles and 4wheelers.Is there something I should know?

Have had several Honda ATV, 2001 and 2005 Ranchers. Now have a 2006 Rincon, all have run on nothing but synthetic oil. With all, I changed to synthetic within a few hours of use. I even had the Honda shop install the Amsoil in my 2001 back then. The service tech was even wearing an Asmoil hat and they sold it in the parts dept.

I think anyone telling you that is only trying to convince you of thier point of view. I do know they put pressure on thier dealers to only sell thier products. That was told to me by a local ATV dealer whom is also my neighbor. I was looking for a 2006 Honda Rincon GPScape. He was complaining that his allocation was not good because he was not buying enough Honda parts and accessories. He has several other products line and Honda does not like that it would seem, so they try to pressure him. If he wants this many ATV's he has to stock this many parts and accessories.

Quite the contrary, I've used ONLY full synthetic in all our Honda ATVs and Motorcycles and Generators for the last fifteen years with zero probelms....
