Help!! - Recently purchased a 2710HST with 140 hrs on it. Only used it about 4-5 hrs, for mowing 4 acres. It has developed an "intermittent" starting problem & I have no idea what to check. When I turn the key - all the appropriate lights on the dash - but no starter engagement. It's as if I don't have the clutch depressed. The last time this happened, I jiggled the clutch cables / levers, and it started, but I'm honestly not sure if that had anything to do with the issue.

Anyone have any ideas, or a checklist I can run thru?

The dealer is a fair distance away & I hate to think about trying to get it on the trailer, drive it down there & then have it start straight away. I drove it for about 20 mins last night without any problems, then dead as a doornail this am.

Many thanks for any input

Both PTO's must be in the off position. While using my B2910 it would not start. 540 PTO lever was not fully off.

Two other items. Clutch must be fully pushed in and HST pedal must be in the neutral position (centered between Forward and Reverse).

Sounds like a saftey switch is not in the correct position.

My 2910 was doing the same thing (and still does from time to time). We could not find the cause of this aggrivating malfunction so; I installed a push button switch wired across the starter. Now when the starter wont engage as it is suppose to, I turn the ignition and let the "glow" light for a short while and press the button and it starts. CAUTION this method by passes all safety switches and it will start with any and all engaged.

I have a L3400 HST. I've had one incident where it wouldn't start. I had rammed into a pyle of brush and rocks and it bogged and died. It would not restart. The lights all came on as normal, but without the click you normally hear. I scratched my head for a while and finally squeazed the wire connectors at the clutch switch. It started after that. I think the jiggle you mention fixed the problem. It only occurred that one time.

I have a similar problem with my 7610. Like others have said, I'm certain that it's in the safety switches, it's just determining which one. -Though I have to admit, this little quirky problem is forcing me to become MUCH more familiar with my tractor.
