Help is on the way! (Server upgrade)

Hello Everybody,

Recently there have been some reports of major slow-downs of the forum, at different times of the day. We have traced this back to several issues, including a fundamental need for more server power.

So, we are going to be upgrading our servers in the next couple of weeks. Essentially, we will be doubling the ram in both servers, which will be dual processor machines, for roughly 4x the processor speed and efficiency than what we have right now.

Also, we are planning major upgrades to our forum and the addition of several much-needed search features (profile searching will return, as well as a much more comprehensive search in general).

As always, we credit our need for more servers to the continued growth of the forum, which is seeing record traffic this spring.

Thanks I know I will apprecite the upgrades.

What would be really nice is if you posted the dates and times
of when you will be doing the upgrades and how long you expect it will take. 'Course things can and do go south in a situation like this so nobody will hold you to advertised down times.

It would jsut be so nice to know when these things will happen, so that we uers don't get frustrated for lack of availability during a maintence period.

Ibrahim & Muhammad are good about letting everyone know about these kinds of projects. As the exact time the site will be affected is knwon, they will give as much advance notice as possible.

Just to let everybody know where things stand...

We ordered our new servers today and they should be ready tomorrow. We are planning our main migration for Sunday. It will probably take the entire day. So you might want to plan your weekend activities to include sunshine and tractor time on Sunday. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
