Every fall when the cold (30-45degF)damp weather hits I have trouble with my 4300 not starting . It has always been because of an open circuit in the thermyster for the fuel solenoid( 4yrs in a row). This 57cent unit allows full voltage to the solenoid to pull it in but drops the voltage after a few seconds so it has just enough voltage to hold it in. The little critter is somewhere behind the fuse panel and once the tractor starts and warms up evrything is OK until the next cold start. To do the initial start however I must remove the side panel to get at the three wires to the solenoid, then short the white wire to ground while hitting the key. It always starts instantly when I do this.
I have had the dealer change the thermyster then the problem goes away(even at 0degF) for the next year.Below 10degF I normally plug in the heater.

Thermistor...been there done that...easy $3.00 + fix

Have you got your 4200 to start yet? I have had mine crank but not start several times just while setting in the shop. Sometimes I would wait 15 min and it would start. I read all the posts about the thermistor and replaced it. Thought I had solved the problem, but had it happen again. I traced the problem to a loose fuse block in the fuse panel under the steering wheel. Pressing the fuses in to make sure they are tight solved my problem. Your problem sounds more electrical than fuel. I have found a lot of previous posts about 4200's quirky starting behavior and thermistor problems as noted by others. It would be a cheap fix to check the fuses and all other safety switches ie pto, seat, hydro pedals etc. Good luck

I believeit,s your safety switch under the seat thats causing you greif connect the wires together temporaraly with a small wire by pass the switch and see if that works

Don't think so. If it was the seat switch, it wouldn't even turn over.

I would think that since this thread was last active about 2 1/2 years ago that he has his tractor running by now.:D

The original post started in June of 2005, we need to help these guys out a little faster don't cha think?

I have your answer. I spent days on the same problem with my 4200.
Fuel cut of solenoid pn 119233-77932. On right side of engine by injector stuff. Remove bracket that is in way, remove 2 bolts, pull out sol. turn key to run. push in pin, bolt back on and start tractor. Order replacement part for $160 and it will work fine for another year and a half. I cut my bracket and only use one bolt so I can pull it in 30 sec.

Love it

I have had a similar problem with my 455 JD lawn tractor. The fuel injection solenoid gets gumed up after time, in my case 1700 hours. I took it apart, clean it up and coated it with a lite coat of olive oil. That was several years ago and I have not had any trouble with it since.

Next time the fuel solenoid on my 4300 goes I'm gonna make some kind of a manual system that I can control from the seat. I have a plate with a bolt on it that I've used while waiting for the dealer to get a new one but I need to use a wrench to shut off the tractor....

Seems like yanmar would have a manual fuel shut off that would fit on that style injection pump. I saw one that a guy had drilled a hole thru the bad solenod and ran a rod back so he could just push it in to shut off the engine. Not realy a good idea safety wise as the shut off is a major part of the safety system but sometimes you got to do what you got to do.
