Kubota L3400
My dealer can't get the L3400HST. They are on hold for delivery due to a PTO problem which I read about on another post. No timetable as of today. He has some B3030's coming in and wants me to consider the 3030 instead of the 3400. I like the size of the 3400 and just not sure about the smaller frame. I have 3 acres but have many post holes to dig and lots of leveling lots of chipping with a Bearcat 3 pt. chipper and then stumps to remove. I think I would be more tempted to jump up to the 3130 but it just felt to large on a test. I tested the L2800HST and it had that just right feel to me. I just wanted more horsepower. As I am writing this I am thinking I should be patient and just wait for the 3400. But I really want my tractor NOW. It will be my first. Thanks, Brian

Have you considered a rental while you wait? May cost less than the diff between the 3400 and the 3030/ 3130. And that's wear and tear that you won't have to live with on your new tractor. Just a thought.

I really hate to rent plus that is how I was able to justify buying a tractor. If there is such a thing as justifying but it sounds good. My big dilema is the tractors. There is almost no price difference between the L3400 HST with loader and R4's and the new B3030 HST with loader and R4's. I looked at the specs and the 3030 weighs less, has less horsepower and smaller tires. The loader picks up less. The tractor does have some extra features but it just seems like you are getting more tractor for the same dollars with the L3400. But thanks for your suggestion and I am looking for opinions. Thanks, Brian

If you fill out your profile, it'll give other members a better idea of your tractor requirements. Til then...buy what makes you happy, tractors last a long time.

Where is the post that references the L3400 PTO issue?
Thanks

I think you have answered your own question. Even if the B3030 does wind up serving your purpose, you will always have that thought that the L3400 would have done more/easier. I have a B2410 and the 3030 will be a larger second cousin and I think you would probably find that it would do the jobs you are asking on your acreage, but a brief wait would be reasonable to have what you want.

At least Kubota is holding up shipments until they solve the problem. To me that is an indication that they want them "right" before they sell them. I am sure at least a few other manufacturers would go ahead and ship them and then try to fix the problem later and only for the folks who complained.

If it were me I would wait for what you want. Tractors are not like cars where you trade it in after 3 or 4 years. You may have it for 20 years and I would not want to spend 20 years on a smaller tractor wishing I had waited. I know waiting is hard work, but it will be worth it!

I thank you guy's for your opinions. This will be my first tractor and I want to get it right and yes I plan on 20 yrs. Hopefully the fix for the pto problem will not be to difficult for Kabota to solve. And I also agree it is better to wait and get it right than send out a product that they know will fail. Kubota is making the right call. Every Kubota owner I have talked to locally has nothing but good things to say about there tractors and Kubota quality. I could buy another brand cheaper but at this point I will wait and hope. Thanks, Brian

Last year, I bought a BX23 and since the beginning my eyes were on a B2910... I tried to convince myself that the one I got was OK but finally I'll change for a B3030 in two weeks.

So you should buy the right thing right at the beginning, the tractor you have in your mind. Because that thought won't go away afterward if you by something else. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I know that now... and I paid for it. A BX23 was my first tractor. I bought it last June... I'll sell it in two weeks... not good for the bank account. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

So imagine you have to tell your wife that you already have a great tractor but you want another one with more capabilities... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif it costs me a 2 weeks trip to Hawaii next February to convince her. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

So... you should wait. Everybody will be happier this way. But I know... you'll have orange dreams for the next few weeks. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW, good choice, nice tractor.
