Help Locating Tie Rod end

I posted in this thread http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/yanmar/218151-anyone-have-pics-power-assisted.html but I am afraid it may have gotten missed.

I am looking to replace the tie rod end that goes at the end of my power steering cylinder. Its a 330D. I have tried Hoye without any luck.

The part # is PH5062-1 . Its an 18mm Rod with a 14mm stud

I found a perfect match from Italy, but I need to find one in NA!

Moog comes close, but these things are short and I am not sure there is enough thread closer to the rod end [url=http://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/moog-es3367t[/url]

I looked a little on Ebay, including completed listings and international. Nothing. I don't know of a broader market than that. Maybe Alibaba.

Something that might narrow your search: Back then, Yanmar bought some generic components that were also used by Nissan. I've seen steering boxes and electrical stuff. Possibly inquiries into a 240Z hobbyist group etc might find someone who can link you to a broad-scale Nissan parts support dealer who recognizes the part.

But if it were me - I would just buy the part from Italy.

How many Yanmar Authorized Parts Dealers, or Japanese tractor salvage yards have you contacted?

If the Moog part will fit/thread properly but is just physically too short, have you considered picking up that part and having a good machine shop/welding shop “stretch” it to the required length?

@normde2001 - uhhhhmmmmm I have to admit I haven't chased all those down yet. My bad. I arrogantly thought "how hard can it be to find a 18mm tie rod end on the internets". But its not easy~! Everyone wants to sort via make/model. Also, after reading all the threads here on the power steering 'add-on' that Yanmar used I pretty much gave up after calling Hoye. Will follow this up better tomorrow.

@Fleetman - the Moog part might actually be too long. There appears to be 2-3 inches of un-threaded rod. I think I need threads closer to the joint. Having said that I may have to go 'outside the box' if I want to get this done

Simply a thought. Yanmar makes or made tractors for John Deere. Is it possible that a similar size John Deere of the same age has the same part under a different part number?

I tried but its a needle in a hay stack. Moog was the only site I could find that allowed you to type in a size. Everyone else wants make/model etc. I tried look at JD units that were similar vintage to my 330, but after awhile I just gave up

On the smaller US Yanmars in that era, the optional PS unit was a third-party kit made in the US, provided by Yanmar-USA, installed by the dealer, then sold as 'OEM'. Now today the provider of the first-generation kit on my YM186D no longer exists and the PS is unsupported.

I don't know if this also applies to the 330D but if it had a US-manufactured PS system there may be no relation to PS-equipped Deeres of that era.

Sounds like you need to find another source similar to Moog that lists by dimensions, to find a cross-reference to what it was used for. Possibly in Alibaba?

...and the winner is normde2001!!:thumbsup: I outsmarted myself with this one. On your suggestion I called Fredricks and now I have the part on its way!! They actually had a couple in stock!

I have gotten so used to the 'power of the internet' that I don't even try the 'low-tech' version of a phone call anymore #NOTEFORTHEFUTURE

@California I went down MANY rabbit holes. Lots in Australia and Japan where metric is common. I never came a cross another site that let you spec based on size. Worse yet, was the fact that the 18mm rod can be referenced on a site as M18, 18M or 18mm (with or without space!!). One site even had different ways of using it for different parts!

Good to hear! Yes Hoye is the only Yanmar-specific source I know that is set up for full online ordering. Anybody else, call and see what they know.
