I'm new to the board but maybe you guys can help...I've talked to salesmen but I don't trust/believe them(they lie incase you didn't know).
Anyway I bought a new Farm Trac 45 w/7 hrs. on it for a good price and I need a loader for it... I've talked to local Long dealers and one is telling me $4,400 installed and $4,000 not installed...The other is telling me $5,200 installed and $3,800 not installed...They're both 72" buckets and made by Long for the 45. However I talked to a Bush Hog Dealer and he said he can get me a 72" installed for $3,900.
I plan on selling a brand new, never used Bush hog Chipper/Shredder(Model CS100p) and using that money to take a big chunk out of the loader price/install.
My Question; If I wanted a descent loader for a GOOD price then how much should I pay and on what brand/model? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Thanks, Moto

p.s. Oh I know how much these Chippers were from the dealer but how much should I ask for it?(keep in mind it's never been used)?

Those prices sound about right. The Bush Hog will cost less but be aware that it may be much heavier and bulkier than the mfg's model. It may be fine on that machine but it is something to be aware of. The trade off is that more weight in the loader and frame means less weight your tractor can lift. There was a thread here about the weight difference and the frame left on the tractor being too large for the tractor it was on. You may want to check it out just as a reference. Here's the link Loader Differences

I think it could help immensely if you filled in your profile. There are a lot of dealers and others who work at dealers on this net, and with a profile, you may luck out and get a better offer that what you have now.

If and I say If the loader is sized properly for the tractor, a Bush Hog loader should not be excessively heavier than the OEM loader. Danny's Bush Hog loader shouldn't have ever been recommended or installed on that size of tractor.

Re: Help me buy the right loader(Farm Trac 45)PLEA

A very important question to ask all dealers that are bidding for the sale--Is, are they installing with a joystick control valve or 2 lever control valve or using the Farmtrac 45, 2 levers under the seat to control the loader functions(this installation method can sometimes be $500 less money--However--It ties up your 4 rear remote outlets)--$3500 is about we sell at, uninstalled with 6 ft bucket---Ken Sweet

Thanks guys at least I know I'm not getting screwed if I buy at these prices. I really do appreciate the responses. Thanks.

Like I said in my original post, I am new to this board and I'm not real familiar w/this software...I registered like it said and nowhere did I see an option to fill in my profile.
I'll loook again, surely there is but I just didn't see it...Hey I'll go look now, and I'll look "immensely"...
Thanks to the other guys that gave me a serious response.
Thanks, Moto

After reading numerous post regarding the merits of the mfg brand versus aftermarket, I decided on a Bush Hog for my JD 4500 tractor.

I got the best information by going to a power equipment show and talking with the various representatives directly. The Bush Hog rep told me which model I needed, compared it to the JD model, give me a list of stocking dealers and a estimated retail price for the FEL plus installation.

I visited two of the dealers, compared their facilities, their willingness to answer my questions and finally to give me a installed price with pickup and delivery of my tractor.

The Bush Hog FEL has worked fine, the dealer has taken care of all my needs and I have used it extensively, only removing from the tractor once in the last year.

Good luck,

Thanks Eric...I also like Bush Hog, my grangfather put one on his International/Case tractor in 1982 and it has been used hard, never has it been broken or even close to it. My dad still uses it every day on his jobs.
Oh I have a picture of that CS100p Bush Hog chipper/shredder if anyone wants to see it, Here I'll attach it here for you, down load it...You'll notice that it has the directional/optional shute(you can choose where you shoot the chips).

I'm going to second everything DavidJ said and add one more thing. Not only did bush hog miss match their loader to my tractor, they refused to help me out when I wanted to get it taken off. My New Holland dealer was willing to work with me, but bush hog was not willing to do a thing! That's not the kind of service I expect from a major brand. I will never buy a bush hog product again and i don't recommend them to anyone.

Re: Help me buy the right loader(Farm Trac 45)PLEA

It's seems this topic of after market loader vs. OE loader seems to come up weekly, if think if the truth were known most of the OE loaders are made by these other companies. I believe Bush Hog was OE to Mahindra, Alo-Quickie to Kubota, SOO tractor for Massey, Buhler/Allied for McCormick

Re: Help me buy the right loader(Farm Trac 45)PLEA

CMunger - That's probably true. New Holland does not make the 7308 loader, my dealer told me the name of the company that makes them, but I forgot the name. But, there is a difference between a company making OEM loaders for a tractor manufacturer and a company making "add on" loaders. In the former, the loaders are made to OEM specs. In the later, they are made to fit a range of tractors and therefore are not going to be as good of a fit.

Re: Help me buy the right loader(Farm Trac 45)PLEA

Pretty sure that Kubota makes their loaders and backhoes at the main plant North of Gainesville, Ga. A friend of mine is in the metal fabrication business and his company makes a couple of the loader and backhoe parts for Kubota. I am sure they out source most of the components but weld and paint them up at the plant. My Kubota B21 for sure has a backhoe bucket that was made by Woods.

Re: Help me buy the right loader(Farm Trac 45)PLEA

MotoXer,

I have a Bush Hog Loader on a Cub Cadet 23HP 4WD and I am very happy with its performance. I had the option when I bought the tractor to get the OEM model or the Cub. Money was an issue and it looked like the Bush Hog was a very good value for the money. It is not a Quick Detach type but it looks like it would come off in just a few minutes. I haven't had the need to take it off so it has stayed on since new, 6 - 7 years. My only other comment is the Fit and Finish of it was not as high a quality as the CC loader. The paint was kind of rough and didn't match to well but as far as its performance I couldn't ask for much more. I think you would be real happy with the loader. If I remember right the BH specs were quite a bit better than the CC OEM model.
Let us know what you buy and how it turns out.

Re: Help me buy the right loader(Farm Trac 45)PLEA

OK MAJMAC, I will...Thanks guys...
BTW does anyone have any idea what I should ask for the BH chipper/shredder that I pictured? I'm going to put it in the local "Heavy equipment trader"...I don't expect to get rich off of it but I don't wanna get ripped, I mean it is brand new.
Thanks, Moto /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Help me buy the right loader(Farm Trac 45)PLEA

All these answers to my comments have good merrit. The answer is it depends on the manufacturer of the product. Some after market loader manufactures run alot of R&D, some just make them fit, the same with the OE loaders. Good dealers know the balance between price and good quality, if it's OE or not. Everyone looks for absolutes, ain't no such thing
