Just grease the tires, it will be alright.
okay. looking forward to those pics. what tractor are you hauling on it?
I too have been talking with Brad at 101 trailer sales about a BP 22' HDT. My two previous trailers are Iron Bull trailers purchased from Norcal Trailer Sales in Redding, but I'm switching to Diamond C as they seem to take much more pride in their trailers. Some of the welds on my Iron Bull trailers are kind of sad.
Just sold my 20' HDT. Bought it from Brad down there at 101 south of Gilroy. He had the best prices of any of the Diamond C dealers around these parts. Headed south tomorrow to pick up my new Lamar 16' gooseneck dump. If you have time and even with fuel cost traveling south to purchase quality trailers are worth the effort.
Have I been doing it wrong all along here? Haha! I've been buying mine from Redding and we're technically Central Coast/Southern part of the Bay Area...![]()
All of the gravity tilt trailers have a working width of 80-82" or so. Its linked to the maximum trailer width - width of tires & clearances. When I compared published specs to a tape measure, I found things varried an inch or 2 frequently across several brands. Some of it was between fenders vs the width of the tilting deck, some was probably just manufacturing error. If you are worried about an inch or 2, you need to verify the actual clearances yourself.i’ve narrowed down my medium duty trailer search to a diamond C HDT 20k tilt trailer, but I wanted to get some input on the inner width between fenders.
The standard width between fenders is 82”, no problem, our widest skid steer is 77-78” wide. I really want the disc hydraulic brakes, I have them on the gooseneck trailer and they are fantastic, especially on hills and pulling heavy loads, they almost never fade and if a seal blows, you still got brakes, but to get them on this smaller trailer, it decreases the width between the fenders to 79”, so it would be a really tight squeeze when hauling the CAT289 CTL. It will be mostly used for hauling smaller auxiliary equipment, but there are some jobs that the gooseneck cannot traverse, hence another reason for buying this shorter bumper pull trailer.
My question is, has anyone run into problems with close clearances like this? I can get the extra thick fenders so I’m not worried about rubbing against them, but anyone have any thoughts or stories to share? They have bolt on cheaper fenders, but I don’t want to be bolting and unbolting them every time.
I don't know...if I select the 8K axle option (18k gvw) instead of the 7K (14k gvw) I lose 2 inches of width between the fenders making it 80 inches instead of 82". I just measured my tractors rear tire width...79 &1/4". That's close...real close!

Going with the 7k axles brings me back to a more acceptable 82" between the fenders...
