Thanks for the YouTube link. I learned quite a bit about those Ford diesels from them.
So, the problem with those variable input turbos is the old, dirty diesel fuel that causes soot buildup and coking. And if you buy a truck with one of those turbos that was manufactured before the ultra low sulfur fuel came on the market, chances are the turbo may have a major contamination problem that could lead to catastrophic failure.
Is there any way to check a turbo on a used truck that you're looking at for this problem, short of disassembly?
