SuperLube; It saved my life!! You can get a tube at Radio Shack as Lube Gel if they still sell it.

HI there,

Having once worked for Snap On here in the UK , with their tool boxes with their older type drawer slides I always used candle wax on them, No messy spray and after effects !

Or, try something called Slipit, which comes as a spray or, best for your project, in a can as as paste? or gell?. Contains no silicones, or so they say, but seems to last and work. Good for old double hung windows and wooden drawer slides, too.
