I'm stuck between purchasing a Kubota M4800 and a Massey MF1455. Could someone please give me personnal experiences concerning both. They are both within my budget. I am looking for a tractor that will be dependable and reliable, resale value is not important as I need a tractoe that will last about 15 years. I plan to keep it to manage my 50 acres in SE Texas. Work will included mowing, brush cutting, driveway maintenance general farm activities.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Scudbait, I thought I was the only one who looked seriously for more than 6 months for a tractor. I'm sure you have driven both by now and have all the brochures, checked out all the pricing, compared all the features, and every other day change you mind.

Now it is time to look for a sign.

You posted here instead of on the Massey post, could that be a sign?

I think you need to buy a BX!

Seriously, either will last 15 years with proper maintenance, and when you get to that point, you will be able to sell the tractor for about as much as you paid.

Pull the trigger. If you've spent 6 months debating, you ARE the expert! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd go with orange. With the handle, Scudbait, you just got to look better on an orange tractor.

Could you please tell me which John Deere and why I should consider it. I may be willing to take another look if the price range, dependability and reliability are in the same ballpark with what I have been recently looking at.

Thanks

Better to ask this question in the Deere forum. That is where you will find all the Deere exerts. I just like the looks of them and their reliability is second to none. Seems that the Deere buyers are also a lot happier with their dealer network than the Kubota owners. Might just be a perceived situation. I haven't done the statistical analysis of satisfaction. Good luck on what ever you purchase. Buying a tractor is a major expense and you should cover all of your bases and educate yourself about all the options and choices. In each forum, you will get brand loyalty, but until you park your body in the seat of the tractor, all that opinion won't matter if you are not comfortable behind the wheel. Buying a tractor is like a marriage. Pick the right on the first time and you will always be happy. Pick the wrong one, and you will soon want to be trading in and getting another. This can be costly in both marriage and tractors. Ride it for a while and see how it feels. If you like the feel of the tractor, then negotiate the best price you can with the dealer that you feel will appreciate your business most and will be there to support you in the event of problems. When you buy a tractor, you are committed to the brand and the dealer support network. This is important to remember. You don't want to be driving long distances to purchase parts or service usually. Try to buy locally where ever possible.

The Kubota is a utility series and the Massey is a large compact. I am sure either one will do what you need done. I have a MF 1440, it is a nice tractor. Everything is with in easy reach and convenient. I really like the turbo compared to the MF 1250 non-turbo that I last had.
How are the dealers.
How does each tractor fit you?
Is the Massey a shuttle or power shuttle?
Have you looked at the MF 400 series?
We have a couple of members that have a MF 1455, maybe one will chime in.
