I have been having a great time brush hogging with this cutter, no complaints. It came setup with the tail about 1 1/2" higher than the rear and that works great in the brush.

For the time being I am going to cut the lawn with it. It cut fine but I need to get the angles right so that the front of the deck doen't gauge the lawn. I have raised the tailwheel to drop the rear of the deck alittle and it helped slightly. I did it some more but didn't try it yet. Should I change something else? Mybe remove the center link for the lawn so it "floats" a little?

You have to adjust the 3 pt hitch so that the weight of the mower is on the tractor and not on the ground. If you have a stop nut on the 3pt drop lever you can use it to always get the mower back to the same position after its been lifted. I have used my neighbors little JD 790 and Brush Hog brand mower exactly this way.

Like RaT said, the front of the mower will be supported by the lift arms, not skidding on the ground. You are on the right track by adjusting the height of your tailwheel. The only other thing I can think of is that with a rotary mower you will probably not be able to adjust it as low as a finish mower. For one thing, it doesn't have wheels at the corners to prevent the gouging you are seeing. Every little twist of the tractor is going to force the sides down into your lawn.

Glad to hear you're having fun with that new tractor /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
