I have a ‘92 LX176 I bought used maybe 15 or so years ago. I have used that thing to do stuff I shouldn’t: pull yard trailers full of gravel heavy enough it nearly pulled me down a hill into the lake while backing down; pulling a 4x8 trailer(s) overloaded with rotted wood out on rough trails in the woods to dump it; bagging gigantic amounts of oak leaves in the spring, when they’re so dirty I come in looking like I worked in a coal mine. I guess the bagging is normal use but spring pick up is far worse than fall. That LX176 now blows some oil but I still use it to bag fall leaves and some mowing. Only repairs were one belt, the PTO switch my neighbor broke and a tapping out a grease zerk I snapped on the deck. I did degrease the engine where the blow-by and leaf dirt/dust had coated the cooling fins because it was overheating. It’s a good machine and I’d love another good one at $500.
When my LX started blowing more oil the JD parts guy said “they can run like that for a long time” and he was right, but I convinced myself I needed a new machine so got an X300 with bagger. It does all the LX176 did but I don’t tow heavy stuff with it. Three years with it I think and zero problems.
They are at different properties.
