Tractor
~'88 1872(sold); '08 GT2554
I know you've been thru thisa million times but....

Relatively small yard, about 1 acre. All Bermuda grass. Grows like crazy when it's 90+ out! I currently have an older Cub 1872 with a 60" deck. The tractor itself cuts at a high speed(goes fast). It is becoming a typical old tractor( a pain to fix every time it gets used).

I have been looking at new Cubs particularly the 1554 and 1054(?). Anyway the major difference is the Command vs. Courage engine and some optional equipment down the line. I have also checked out ZTRs and they are in the mix as well.
I want to keep to a 54 deck or larger or maybe a 50 in a ZTR.
I'm afraid with the ZTR I will give up the use of the tractor for other uses(towing trailers, moving a bass boat across the yard, yard work, etc).

Your needs aren't too demanding so I would think a 1000/1500 series would do the job well. I also like the "tractor" style mowers for pulling, using attachments, etc. Did you have a certain price range in mind?

I was wanting to keep things near $3,000.
I have another concern. I drove the 1554 and it seems to go soooooooooooo slow. Atleast this is compared with my older 1872.
I just put a new carb on the 1872 and it seems to be running great now(the reason for considering a new tractor).
Now I have this dilema. Do I keep the 1872 and just run it into the ground and accept $100 here and $300 there or do I sell it for what I can get for it(which it should still bring near $1,000 I'd guess) and get a new one.
I am very leery of new ones because of the slow top speed.
The new ones do turn much sharper however.

Since you're a "diesel nut" there is only one choice, actually 2 this year...just step up and get a Cub 5234 diesel or the new 5264 diesel. Sure, they're way out of your price range and overkill for 1 acre, but so what. You'll love the 4 wheel drive, hst, 3 pt hitch and a Diesel Engine! You can do it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
