Getting a separate grapple has been much better for me. And with my quick attach front loader I can always change out to the bucket quickly.

At the price I paid for the separate grapple, I don't know what type of bucket attachments are out there that would compare.

In working in the woods for the last three months, there has been only one day when I wish I had the bucket with me to rough out a new trail section. Instead I slowly ran the grapple teeth through the area a couple of times to smooth it out enough for my use.

I think it all depends on your uses. There are some 4-n-1 users out there that really like having all the options right there on the tractor. They are usually doing a lot of ground work where they are constantly switching between functions.

I own both a grapple and a 4n1. The grapple which retailed for less than half of what the 4n1 does is on the tractor 80-90% of the time. I like the 4n1 and for some operations it clearly saves time but for brush clearing, the grapple is the tool of choice. I only put the 4n1 on when I will be using the backhoe and need to smooth out an area afterwards in addition to carting off the tree.
